It Starts with a Single Spark…

During the past several weeks, I have been trying to get back into habit of writing even if it is by use of pen and paper. Yes, the old way of writing that some of us use to do in school to pass the time. Most of what I was written has been short pieces or even scenes of bigger pieces, and my most recent try is a Harry Potter fan-fiction piece. Whatever, it is I’m trying to get back into the swing of it from my somewhat lengthy break.

In my last post, I had written that I was taking a break due to all the drama that had taken place within our community. Let’s admit that last year was ugly and this year it seems has been no exception to have its share of drama for the writing community. I will not go into the latest bit of drama on this post, other than to say that advanced reader copies are free!

Although, I could bring up this latest drama, I won’t for it has been kicked about and talked about quite a bit on AuthorTube.

However, with all the drama being battered about in the writing community, I have made the decision that it is not going to effect my writing or my business for that matter. I need to get back into the full swing of writing for I have missed it dearly from my life, and for a while I have been looking for that single spark to get back into what I love dearly.

I have found a few threads along the way, that I have kicked me back into it, and the greatest spark came last night, thanks to my incredibly loving boyfriend. He drew me a lovely soak bath. While I was enjoying this gift of a bath, I closed my eyes and thought about the stress that I have been facing in my life, besides not writing, and then I pushed those thoughts out of my head, and thought about my writing.

Needless to say, the clarity came to me that I need to push out whatever doubt that I may have about my stories and just write. This same advice that I have given to others, I was ignoring and that is not how I should have been conducting myself. Yes, I will admit that I was not listening to the advice that I was giving out. So now I’m going to listen to my own advice and write what I want to write and ignore what others have to say.

I have stories to tell and what goes on in the community should not interfere or bind me against my inner desires to write. Therefore, as of write now I’m holding on to the sparks that I have found and am going to write what I want. Furthermore, I have accepted that I have been letting others interfere in what I want to accomplish and that is not how I want to conduct my business. I am coming back and am engaging my craft with everything that I want it to be.

I want to grow as a write. I want my craft to grow with every story that I write. I want to pursue my passion like never before. Finally, I don’t want to go without a day of not writing. Granted, this is where I will also hold myself accountable, that during my break even though, I was not writing I was still thinking about writing. Yes, writing was still driving me and due to that drive, I could not ignore the simple fact that I needed to write. Therefore, I am back doing what I love, and I have really missed it dearly.

Even though, I am getting back to writing, there is one thing I am not partaking in Camp NaNoWriMo for the month of July. I am going to be taking it slowly to get back to into the swing of things, but I am coming back. This does not mean that any of my previous projects are dead in the water, it just means that I will also be taking another piece of advice and that is to be working on one project a time, and with that also in mind, seeing that project through until it is completed. No more leaving it on the shelf not to be touched for months.

Yes, I am some improving to do but that is all in part the growing stage of working on my craft and my passion, and I have to thank my boyfriend of helping me see that I needed a good soaking, warm bath. It just shows that sometimes that when you get a nice gesture, it comes to show that some incredible things can come from a gift; even, if it comes from somewhere unexpected.

I hope that you have found this post to be entertaining if not informative. Thank you, for being patient with me during my break. I hope that you all have a wonderful writing day! Happy Writing and Happy Creating until next time!

Using Writing Prompts

Last time, I spoke about how I was dealing with a dry spell in my writing. Well, that suddenly changed and you might be asking how did my situation change? The solution is by using a writing prompt. Or in my case, I created a prompt of my own. Yes, you could say that I was inspired or rather compelled to write based on a prompt.

The prompt in question came from a recent trailer for an episode of Shonda Rhime’s latest television spin-off of Grey’s Anatomy, Station 19. The trailer starts with a line that goes something like:

“At the end of a funeral, someone will ring twenty bells.”

From the moment I heard this line, I was hooked. My mind was racing with ideas and it started my latest story idea and so far I’m over five thousand words into the first draft. Therefore, you might say that I found a spark that I have latched onto and it is working.

Finding a working spark at times it all it takes for us writers to get our creative juices flowing, and in order to get it working for us is to find that inspiration. Sometimes, finding the inspiration that works can come from a prompt of any sort. It could be a simple line from a television promo, a line of dialog, a picture, or even a simple writing prompt that we find either online or in one of our numerous writing guides. Wherever the prompt may come from if it gives your writing wings then let that baby soar and ride it out as far as you can.

Furthermore, take note that sometimes we writers need or rather can use a prompt to give our writing a gentle nudge or a giant push. In my case, the working prompt that I’m using gave me a giant push to get me out of my rut, and I’m happy that I found something that is working.

Granted, on this project, I have not given it a titled or really jotted down any notes, for you might say that I’m flying by the seat of my pants. Now, granted this where the discussion of being a plotter or a pantser comes into play; however, there are times when you have to say screw being a plotter and just go with the flow of being a pantser. Now, when it comes to the second draft, if something is missing from that first draft then you can start plotting what is missing to improve that initial draft. But if you have hit a hard rut, sometimes being a pantser to get you out of that rut can be both creative and rewarding.

But of course we are only talking about working on that initial first draft, not the other drafts that may or will come into play after the fact. Granted, just looking at getting out of the rut in the first place, is the biggest challenge. Just like a hero must make the choice to accept the call, we writers can take that same piece of advice with what we are given. If we ignore that call then we might lose out on what could possibly one of the best stories that we could possibly write. Sometimes, we just have to take the same piece of allowances that we give our characters and apply it to our writing.

Sometimes, we will find not only archetypes in the presence of our characters, but in our writing as well. Furthermore, we have to understand as writers what we are working with and what we are also facing in our writing to work with what we are being given. In my current, case I know that I was given a wonderful gift from one simple line that came from a television promo, and my lovely muse is enjoying the freedom to play and based on that play time is feeding me information. Therefore, I’m not wasting the gift that has been presented to me and am writing and working on my first draft.

It’s a wonderful thing for us writers when we find that one spark that allows us to set our writing on fire and our fingers to be set free across the keyboard. Therefore, on that note I will allow you get back to whatever project you are currently working on.

I hope that you all have a wonderful writing day! Happy writing and happy creating until next time.

How Dry Am I?

When it rains it pours at least that is how the saying goes. Pouring can mean many a good things or it can mean really bad tidings as well. Granted, for us writers when it rains we look at as a chance to stay inside and write. If you haven’t guessed, yes I really enjoy rainy days for it gives me a chance to stay inside and write to my hearts content, which as I mentioned in my last post, I have done much of that.

I guess the reason why you can sat that I haven’t written is due in part to being busy. Let me be frank, for a moment, the true reason is that I have hit what you might call a dry spell, well as a case of writer’s block. But in the latter of things, it really is a dry spell.

This is sometimes another matter that plagues us creative types. This is not to say that I have not had ideas for stories. Goodness knows that I have had plenty of ideas rolling around inside my head, but finding the right ways to get them jotted down is another thing entirely different.

This dry spell for me has been a pain in the butt for I have had many ideas that I have wanted to get jotted down. Some of it has been poetry, some of it has been short stories, and some of it has been thinking of a way to get back into working on my larger projects as well as some new ones as well. But when you get with a dry spell it can be hard to get that creative process to unleash itself and flow through onto the paper.

Granted, I’m still trying to find a way to get that creative flow to come back, for this has been driving me mad. This is not to say that I haven’t tried for I have many a times, but it has not allowed to fully be done. Being stuck in a rut can be a royal pain in the butt. Let me put this on the record, there is nothing more that I would rather do right now than find a quick solution to get me creative juices flowing so that I can get back to what I dearly love to do with my time and that is to write.

I have never thought of writing as a chore, but rather as a creative outlet to let out my stress. Just like there are times when we need to watch something depressing or some terrible business being leashed upon one of our favorite characters on a television show, it is sort of the same thing for us writers, such as let us see what terrible thing we can inflict upon our wonderful characters that we have created.

Yes, it is quite fun and the most appealing thing that we can do to spend our time and our hours. But the only thing that is getting in the way is my freaking dry spell. Just like with writer’s block when you write something you think that it is crap, it is the same when you try to write when you have a dry spell.

This feeling does not help with the confidence that we need as writers when we are telling stories. Yes, confidence is what we truly need as writers to feel that we are getting the job done and so far, my confidence as been down in some major way. This is not a helpful thing to find an outlet for my dry spell writing.

If you have any suggestions on how to fully deal with dry spells, please, let me know and put your suggestions in the comments.

I hope that you have a wonderful writing day! Hope that you are not plagued by either writer’s blocks or dry spells! Thank you, again as always and I hope to see you next time.

Checking back in…

d86be4ce65bf82512775609ba751b966--fairy-silhouette-free-silhouette-cameo

Hello once again! If you have noticed I took a bit of a break. Actually you might call it I was an extended leave. I know that it looks poorly on my business and my writing. However, I will explain what has been going on with me and why I took the break.

I will start this conversation off by stating for the record, that all of my plans for this year went out the window. That’s write, all of my goals that I had setup for myself this year and my writing have not actually taken place. Yes, you can shun me for this but on the other hand, I have been taking care of myself for once.

Needless to say, that as writers we need to not only take care of our craft but we also need to take care of ourselves in the perspective of mind, body and soul. When it comes right down to it, I wasn’t doing that in the past, for I was more focused on writing and in away not taking care of myself, my creative process and my writing was suffering for it. But it was also hard to take care of my creative process, when part of our community has been hurting others in the community that have been doing the right things.

What has been taking place in our community was another reason why I needed to take a break as well. Sorry, the negativity that has been going on was just enough for me to say that I needed to take a step back and focus on my life away from writing. This is not to say that I’m giving up on writing. Hell no, it just means that I needed to take a step back and ask myself is focusing on the negativity helping me or my audience and the answer is no. Therefore, I need to step back and look at the world of writing from two different angles.

There is the angle of the negativity and the angle of wanting to help those within our community. I enjoy the fact that I want to help others but when that gets impacted by the negativity that is taking place then it really doesn’t seem that I am helping those that want to get into our community. Let alone me.

Yes, I wanted to give my input into the various situations that our community is currently facing, but at the end of the day when the drama is becoming the fecal point of my message that I’m putting out there then the scale is tilted towards the negative and not so much towards the positive.

Therefore, I want to change that. I want to focus more on the positive than the negative. Furthermore, get back to what I enjoy most about what we do and that is to write, create and above all let me mind feel the freedom once again that comes from exploring our world that is writing.

So here is where I’m confessing my cardinal sin, yes, while I have been on this break, I have done some writing but not a lot of writing. I mean I have not sat in front of my computer on a daily basis writing. There are times when I didn’t write for weeks at a time. One of the main reasons, is life is getting in the way. Yes, I’m still working on the balance between life and writing. But every once in a while, I would take out a sheet of paper and I would write. It wasn’t great writing but it was writing nonetheless.

Yes, there are projects that I still want to work on, focus on and finish. I’m just not doing that right now. Granted, I still need to work on one project at a time and call it good when the draft is totally finished. Yes, this is still a conquest for me, which one day I hope to rectify. However, I’m not there yet as I’m still trying to find a way to justify to myself why one project is bigger than another.

I know that you are now asking yourself to me, “If you haven’t been writing, then what have you been doing?”

The answer is simple, living. I know that sounds very obscured and truth be told I’m not finding that it is not enough without writing. Yes, I’m still working crazy hours, which doesn’t help at times. However, on the other hand, this year so far, as given me so much to be thankful for. One of those blessings is that I’m in a relationship with a really great guy. Yes, I have a boyfriend and I am thankful everyday that he is in my life, in my world and above all that he is with me and I am with him.

Let me preface this part of the conversation with, if you had asked me on year ago would I be with a great guy, I would have answered no. Granted, I have known him over a year now but our relationship started at the beginning of this year, and everything about it has been wonderful. I’m happy to say that I’m with someone who loves me for me and not wanting to be with me just for the sake of using me as a means to an end. This relationship is healthy, beyond words and it is one the reasons that I can say that I’m back.

The relationship that I have, is one of the biggest reasons why I’m not wanting to focus on the negativity, and wanting to look at the positives that we can see when it comes to writing.

I can honestly sit here and say that I have missed writing, and I have missed posting about writing, working on my craft, and looking at videos on YouTube about writing. Yes, I want to do things differently this time around, but on the other hand. There are also things that I don’t want to do differently as well. There’s a balance that I need to find and I feel that we all need to find it rather we are blogging, learning or just writing in general. Everything has a balance and for a while my balance that I had going on here was really off the scale, like one dish was up higher than another.

Yes, I talk about finding the balance a lot but the reason for it is when we are in perfect balance things can go right for us, but when we are unbalanced then things tend to be off sync. When we are off sync we don’t focus as well as we should or we don’t use our best judgement. Right now, without writing my off balance and that’s even with my relationship. Therefore, I want to merge the balances that are my life and my writing into one. I want them to be balanced, which also means making or finding the time to write given the craziness that is my working life.

However, even with trying to find the balance I’m in a good space in my life. I’m happy. I’m in love. I’m finding more of the confidence that has been missing from my life. But all in all, I’m good. But I do have to admit that I have missed my blogging time and I have missed interacting with my readers online. But I needed a break. Yes, we are supposed to admit that we were bad for taking a break but in this instance I’m not sorry, that I took the break. It was very much needed among other things. But I’m back this time and am working on finding the clarity that leads more towards the positive and not so much towards the negative.

Therefore, with that in mind, there are topics that I want to cover and to share with all of you again. I will make some amends for leaving, but in other ways I’m not this time. It was needed to give me focus and to look at all the amazing things that I have going on in my life, as well as what was missing from my life.

On that note, I will end this post. I hope that you all have an enjoyable writing day! Happy writing and happy creating!

January is almost over

January is almost coming to a close and I have yet to work on the things that I have wanted to. To say it was lacking on my part is only part of the story, for there is another story, time. Yes, time can be evil and it can be wasted. On my part, time is not wasted for it is eaten away by the hours that it takes to work and to sleep. Sleep is a precious thing not to have in one’s life.

Let’s face it, we have all heard the phrase: there is not enough hours in the day. This is true and because there is not enough hours in the day sometimes I’m having a hard time fitting in my writing. It’s not to say that I don’t want to write, for I do. It’s just that when you work late hours and have to get up in the morning after getting maybe a couple of hours of sleep at a time, writing has to sit on the back burner sometimes, or have to wait for the weekend.

Am I happy about this? No, I am not. When I am not writing, I’m usually depressed for writing brings me joy and happiness for it gives me a chance to play with words. I love playing with words in a story. Experimenting with story elements and details that I never thought were truly possible. When I am not getting the chance to write, I am depressed, like I said and worse angry.

Yes, we writers when we do not get to do the thing that brings us joy in our lives, tend to have a wide range of emotions. Granted, in society there is a heightened sense of frustrations, depending on what you are experiencing from a government shut down, to teachers going out on strike, and everything else going on abroad. It can be daunting not to be able to put those feelings into words.

I wish that there were more hours in the day, for I would use that writing time wisely, and not use it to seek out what is going on with Facebook, Twitter, or any other social media platform. I even have to admit that I need to work on time management skills but there are also circumstances where time management cannot take into account the forces that take place outside of what we can control.

One of those forces is death, falls, and the occasional relying on others to accomplish tasks, and for these forces time is eaten and wasted away before your very eyes. I might be sounding cryptic but when you chose to do a job that is for doing the greater good, such as making deliveries to assisted living centers and sometimes health centers, you have to rely on those that work on these centers, there are many things that you have to take into account. One of those is making sure that your impatience is checked at the door.

Yes, patience is a virtue and that is something special that some people can manage better than others. But sometimes when you are trying to make deadlines, it is a bit hard to keep your patience meter in check. Especially when you are only going on maybe four hours of sleep.

While I have a lack of sleep, there is the other side of the coin that says that you are helping people. Helping people more and more each day, which is something that you can never do sitting behind a desk at an office door. This job has shown me that at the end of the day, no matter what age you are, sooner or later we will all have to have help for time has a nasty streak somewhere running in its veins.

Yup, time will catch up with us all whether we like it or not. But I hope before then I find away to concur the wasted time that I do not currently have to write, or that we all find that we are lacking in our lives.

Using Pen Names and things to consider

There is a subject, or rather a decision that every writer goes through. Yes, even I am dealing with this decision as of late. The subject is that on using or not using a pen name. Pen names have long been used in the history of our industry. Back during the time of Little Women, female writers were discouraged from writing, for it was long held that it was a male industry. Well, women can write just as men. No, I am not attacking men but rather stating a fact that could also be considered an opinion.

If women wanted to write and be published they had to either take on a male name or would keep their writing to themselves and upon their death it would be later published. Even J.K. Rowling was told this with the Harry Potter series when it came time for her to leap into the world of publication.

Aside from J.K. Rowling, there was a long held belief that when it comes to children writers, that little boys would rather read books written by a man then by female. While this may be fact, and gender bias. On the other hand, it should be looked at who is teaching children, but I will save that rant for another day, for I will stick to the subject on pen names.

Besides gender bias and the history of women writers on their treatment, there is another side to using a pen name and that is based on genre writing. There is a long held belief that if you are going to write in other genres, then you need to use a pen name. There are some famous cases of this and there are some that have broken this as well.

One example of this from the traditionally published, is Stephen King. Yes, the thriller mastermind behind some of New York Times best sellers. He has written in other genres while still using his name. While Nora Roberts, who for the most part writes romance, has indulged into the world of mystery using the pen name, J.D. Robb as well as Jill March and Sarah Hardesty. Even the name Nora Roberts is also a pen name. Now on the self-publishing side, an author that I follow on YouTube, Mandi Lynn is also a pen name. A pen name that she has used in different genres that she has published.

While using a different or a same pen name for when it comes to writing and publishing genres may be up to the author to make. But I have been told that it is an industry wide practice to using pen names when writing or publishing in different genres. Granted, I made different imprints under Moonspinner3 Books, for this purpose, but should I also have to use a different name of this as well.

Granted, on the J.D. Robb titles, it does have the subheading or rather by line of Nora Roberts as J.D. Robb or something to that effect. I have thought about this matter quite a bit and while it maybe something to consider, but on the other hand from a business standpoint, does it make sense?

Hear me out on this, using a different pen name, whether you label that you are using a certain pen name or not can make branding hard. Let alone on Goodreads, you would have to have a separate author page for every pen name that you use.  This can be not only time consuming but probably also ridiculous in the long term as well.

Here is another reason, why I am talking about branding under this post as well, is that if you follow or do not follow but Mandi Lynn just re-published two of her books so that for one they got a face lift on the cover designs, but for another her author name on the covers looks the same. She states in one of her videos that is in part due to her brand that she is working on building. I can see her point on this as well.

Coming up with a pen name or even thinking about using a pen name for that matter is a decision that is not made lightly. Granted, I have given this much thought and for one I do not want to have ten or even twenty different pen names, for that could be quite cumber sum to say the least. But I want to use one name, so that my work can be judge based on one persona and not a thousand. This could also make for an author to have multiple identity disorder at which point, how does one sleep at night. I’m not making light of those that are inflicted by this, but we as authors due have to look at this and take it very seriously.

There is one more side to using a pen name, and that is to make a line in the sand between the personal and the business. I can agree with this as well, for one does need to have at times the separation between the two, and if it is the same then everything that you do in the future in your personal life is reflected on your business good or bad. Do you want it to have an impact in your business? On your writing? How your work is judged? We this all the time when it comes to known celebrities.

This is something that does need to have some consideration and all that I can say is that the decision is up to you. Granted when you are self-publishing or traditionally published depending on how big you are then you can make the decisions that are right for you and your business.

One my side, I am considering it just because I don’t want to have too many pen names, or having to making unnecessary social media pages to stay in contact with my readers. I also don’t want to have several signatures also when it comes to signing books. Yes, I may be sounding lazy but really who has time to do all of the lists above. Let’s here it: No one. I know that I do not. I’m currently working on deciding on which one that I want to use.

I hope that this post has given you some thoughts on the use of pen names. I hope that you have a great writing day! Happy creating until next time!

Still making plans for this year

Hello and welcome back to my site! Yes, as you can guess I have made some slight changes to the website header and the logo to Faerie Rose Press. One of the reasons for the changes was that I hated in the previous version there was that blank square and I also hated that I could not fit in the logo for Writer’s First Source.

The issues that I have had with the logo for Faerie Rose Press, was that it was a bit too dark and the words could be barely seen. Therefore, I changed the colors on the logo. Therefore, here is the new logo for Faerie Rose Press:

cropped-faerie-rose-press-logo-new-page-001-3-e1547588977569.jpg

Now as you can see from the header there is also now a new logo for a new imprint called Silver Wolf Writing. Silver Wolf Writing is a direct imprint of Moonspinner3 Books, that allows for me to publish works that are either non-fiction and what also may be considered creative non-fiction. Yes, granted I’m mostly about fiction writing but there are times when we as writers that focus on fiction need to take a break from fiction writing and dive into the world of non-fiction. Therefore, that is where Silver Wolf Writing comes into play.

silverwolfwriting-page-001 (1)

Here is the story behind Silver Wolf Writing, is that as I have been starting to think about what I want to accomplish this year, I also started thinking about publishing a book of essays. Let’s face it, not all essays are for academic purposes for there are times when we just need to write or rather jot our ideas down on paper. Sometimes it can be crap, but when they are pure genius, that is when you want to share with it others. Therefore, one of the things that I want to accomplish this year is a book of essays. There may also be a memoir in mind too, but I have not yet decided.

As I have mentioned on here before, I want to make this year all about the craft of writing. I want to explore, write, and publish. I am also in the process of working on re-working and re-publishing my poetry collection, Poems in a Milk Bottle. While I am also working on the second draft of Ravages of Time.

You may ask why, and the answer is simple, I feel that I rushed the poetry collection to publication and I want to add some new poems all the while, doing a really good relaunch. So look to that happening. I’m also thinking about re-publishing some of the short stories that I previously published last years as well. There are many things that I want to do and redo as well.

That is one of the blessings of being self-published and owning your own business, is that you can make these sort of decisions. This is also part of me learning about running this business and learning about marketing as well.

I feel that while this year is still new, and fresh I can take the time to build my business and my brand right. Now please, do not take this as I am restarting this website. Heck no, no one has time for that. I know that I don’t have time for that. I’m just doing things to make my brand stronger than it was yesterday. I know that you are probably sick of me changing things up, but look at other businesses that have made changes over their lifespan.

The one takeaway from all of this is that when you make writing your business, and you are still new and trying to make an impact and market your business, you try to be consistent on what your image, brand, and your message looks like. My message is that writing can be obtainable if you put forth the effort.

There is a saying that we have in the alpaca world, which I also feel is appropriate for the writing: What you put into your writing is what you are going to get out of it. If you don’t put the time or the effort into it, then it is not going to pay in the long run. Granted, I have learned the lesson and continue to learn that lesson.

Therefore, I want to make better choices and not just choices that need to be rushed into. That is something that we all should do when it comes to thinking about the choices that comes from trying to make writing a business.

I hope that you have a great writing day! Happy creating until next time!

Happy New Year!!! Welcome to 2019!!!

Yes, there are many that have probably have started their first blogs of 2019 with this sentiment, and I am no exception. Let’s praise something that 2018 is over (finally). Now we can start to get to the things that we want to do in 2019, which I have mentioned in several posts that I have many things that I want to accomplish in this new year.

First of all, let me discuss one of my biggest goals is to work on one project at a time. Yes, if you were with me last year, you saw that I was working on either too many projects at a time or I was jumping from project to project without finishing one. Shame on me. This year, however, one of my biggest goals is to work on one project at a time and see it from start to finish. The first of these projects is Ravages of Time.

In case you are not aware, Ravages of Time, is one of the first novel projects that I took on in my first attempt at NaNoWriMo, back a few years ago. While it is a completed first draft, I want to get it to the phase to where I can get it published. I have designed three covers for this book, two that are really similar to one another and the third is like a complete overhaul on the cover design. Here are all three covers displayed together:Ravages of Time Covers-page-001

So that is what I am working on as far as bigger projects go. As for a small one, yes, I’m taking on a small one at the same time. Granted, this goes against the one project at a time thing, but I feel that this project needs to be done for it is somewhat bugging me. Remember, we writers tend to be perfectionists. Especially when we learn something new and want to go back and fix things that we might not like with something that we may have completed in the past.

This one project, is redesigning the cover for Poems in a Milk Bottle, my poetry collection. Yes, the poetry collection is already out there, on Amazon, in publication. However, there are a couple of things that have bothered with me with the publication of the collection. For starters there is the cover. Granted, the original cover was put together and designed when I did not know much about cover design, and most recently I redesigned the cover (I will display them down below). The second thing is when I look at the design for the poetry collection a whole, i feel that it was a bit rushed in places, so I want to go back and fix those things, so that I can republish it this year. So that is a small project that I am taking on. Here are the covers as promised, before I go into describing why I am taking on this project:

Poems in a milk bottle covers-page-001

One of the main reasons, why I am going to republish my poetry collection, is because in one year I have learned a lot about putting a book together and I want to make things better. I also learned that I can re-do things, such as unpublish and republish works. I want to expand on what I know and at least try to make things better than they were before. I know that this is a huge undertaking in itself, but I feel that I can do it. So when the updated version of Poems in a Milk Bottle is available, I will let you all know. I also feel that the difference in the cover design is a step up from what it was before.

Another thing that I said that I was going to do in this coming year, is read more than what I did last year. Yeah, I did not read much last year, which I know I should be a shamed of myself. However, instead of reading I was writing, but on the other hand I know that in order to improve upon my craft I need to read more. Therefore, the first book that I am undertaking to read in 2019, is Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn.

Well this is the start of what I have going on in 2019. I hope that your 2019 is getting started where you want it to be. I hope that you have a Happy New Year! I also hope that you have a great writing day! Happy Writing, Happy Creating until next time!

Some Final Thoughts on 2018

In a few short hours, 2018 will be nothing more than a memory, as we welcome in 2019. I would not go as far as a distant memory or even an ugly memory. Just a memory. While 2018 was not all good it was not all bad either. It will be a memorable year, just the same. I will say this about the past year, I learned a lot about writing, the craft and how to improve upon the craft of story telling. This learning is what is driving me forward to continue on to next year.

As much as I learned about writing and shared it with all you, there has also been some good things that came this past year, and there has been some heart ache this past year. Heart ache that was not necessarily that came into my view or rather dreams of writing, but on the personal side, which I am still trying to come to terms with. Let’s face it there are some heart aches that even we writers keep to ourselves and have to say at the end of the day there are no words to express the grief that we are feeling. That is how much this grief is personal for me.

But besides all this, in the past year we indie writers were seeing our community being torn apart by some ugly business. Frankly, in part just did not need to happen, but it did and in part it has cast a shade upon our community. Granted, in any community that we are part of there will be some sort of drama, but this drama goes beyond regular drama and was more like a war was brewing. Let’s hope in the coming year, there is less drama and we can manage to rebuild our community and put the pieces back together. This should a resolution for the community as a whole: put the community back to where it was before #cockygate.

Speaking of resolutions, if your goal next year is to write then I am happy to say that you are not alone. If you are not putting writing more as one of your resolutions then that is fine as well. But going back to the later, did you know there was a thing called Januwrimo? Well, if you have not, than you are not alone for I did know that this was a thing either. I guess it is similar to NaNoWriMo, but instead of November it’s done in January. I totally agree with this idea, if you have writing more as one of your new year’s resolutions. Just like NaNoWriMo, where I declared my project, I am going to declare my project there, and that is to work on Ravages of Time. Yes, I am picking the second draft of Ravages of Time as my Januwrimo project. Granted, I only heard about this like yesterday, but I was like sweet, I can work on Ravages of Time and work on my resolution at the same time. Killing two birds with one stone.

Oops guess that cannot be said anymore, sorry PETA, put it’s a figure of speech.

Simply put there is a lot being put on the young shoulders of 2019. There is a feeling of real optimism, which is great. Granted, we all feel this way when a new year starts, but this time it feels different. It feels as if the heaviness of 2018 is being taken off of us and a new page is turning. A page that holds promise and hope. It’s like we were drowning and now we can come up for that long awaited breath. It feels fantastic.

Of course, as writers we should be being this way, for a new year means that we have another year to hone in on our craft. Set the course to learn new things and to experiment. Yes, we should be experimenting what we can do with words that we have in our vocabulary to draw out images. Images that either have been done before and needs new life put into it, or images that we have worked on before that were not quite write. No matter where we are on our writing journey we should have one resolution in mind that is to improve on our craft.

Yes, even this is a goal of mine. In the past year as I look back, I feel that my ability in using words to tell a story has improved. But of course as I work on my writing journey, with each project that I take on, is a new step forward to creating something. Yes, I am working on past projects, and that’s okay. Every one of us, writers take on a different view, such as what you write in the past should be left behind and never looked at again. Where as I take the approach of what you wrote in the past should be accepted for it is and should be looked as a mile marker that shows how far you have come until now on your journey. It’s part of your journey and it should be accepted as such.

But aside from all of that, I have plans, dreams and goals for the next year. These include everything from what I want to accomplish as a writer, as a reader, and as a business person. I want to help others, which has always been a goal of mine on this site, which I have stated from the beginning and I continue to strive for every time that I post. Even if that post is just giving an update on what I have going on here at Faerie Rose Press.

As I have posted in the past month on here, there are things that I want to improve on, and there are things that I want to strive for in the new year. Some of which is to tell more stories about what inspires me as far as a story that I’m working on. I want to share knowledge that I have not yet shared before with all of you, but has been a work in progress for me. I hope that you will all stay tune to see what I am up to next year.

There is one more piece of business that I must include in my final post of 2018. Thank you to all of you that have come here to see what I am up to, what advice I have to give, and anything else that I have posted on writing. I could not do this with out all of the support that you give. I feel that all of you, my followers are part of my community, and if I have not said that before, I am sorry. But I want you all to know that you are apart of something, and it means the world to me to have your continued support.

I hope that you all have a happy new year, and I hope to see you in 2019. Happy writing, happy creating!

See what good can come from Change

If you haven’t heard by now, then you probably will I have a made a couple of changes in the last few days. This all in part due to me wanting to make my goals obtainable, and to continue saying that I am growing as both as a business and as a writer. Any time that we do something, whether it relates to writing or to another art form, we want to grow as an artist. It just the human nature that we have. It also is away for us to show that we are flexible to changes.

Yes, change is hard to accept, but sometimes change is not always a bad thing for it can also be a good change. But being able to accept the changes to come to us, also shows that we can grow with change as well as expand our knowledge upon our craft. Let’s face it the way that we write today is not the way that we wrote a couple of years ago, or even months ago. This shows that we are adaptable creatures.

Adaptable creatures that can form to the changes or rather the challenges that lay ahead of us. I know that I can not change something of the things that I have done in the past, but I can learn from them and can make a continual effort to show that things are possible once I accept the changes that come into my life, as well as those that I want to make.

One of those changes, is always growing and expanding my knowledge on how I can go about growing my business. Growing my readership. Growing to make not only to make what I want possible, but to also help others achieve what they want possible through the power of writing. Making this happen, granted did not happen overnight. It took months and a couple of years to get to where I am today. But I always try to help others see that writing is a something that we all can master.

Helping others with their craft, is away that not only I can help or rather give back to the community, for there are others that do that as well through whatever platform that they chose. This includes those that use a blog, YouTube, Twitter, or any other social networking platform that is out there free to the public. Yes, there are trolls out there that do nothing but bash and tear down authors. But there are also those out there that are not trolls that want to help others. It’s just that sometimes trolls tend to be a bigger threat and make those that want to do good in our community be overshadowed.

This is a real shame, to see this take place in our community. But this is also something that we have to learn and adapt from, and accept that there are bullies out there just like the ones that we faced as children on the playground. However, as we grew from that past hurt, we can grow from this too and try to make sure that our voices are stronger and louder than their’s. There is power in the community and there is power in our writing. We just have to make the choices to make the changes to make things possible.

Furthermore, when we make things possible, we also see our goals become a reality. Yes, that can be a challenge but it should be a challenge that we fully accept so that we can see what awaits for us on the other side of one challenge. Think of it not just as challenge but as a door. Yes, this has been said before, but when one door closes another opens and when it does we will be accepting of this door and want to take a peek. We are curious creatures after all.

I hope that you have enjoyed this post, and I hope that you will take this in consideration as you continue on your writing journeys. I hope that you have a wonderful writing day!
