Hello and welcome to what is now Moonspinner3 Books! Yes, I have just changed faerierosepress.com to now moonspinner3books.com. This change is all due in part to my original vision for my publishing company changing from being Faerie Rose Press to being Moonspinner3 Books.
In the beginning, I stated that Faerie Rose Press was for publishing works of fiction that is under the genre of fantasy. However, as a writers, sometimes we tend to work and write works that are in other genres. Therefore, I am diversifying my portfolio and made Faerie Rose Press and imprint of Moonspinner3 Books. Therefore, with this change that I made months ago, I am now making the changes to the site to reflect this change in that the website is now under the main company name.
Yes, I have been away from my site; however, this does not mean that I have not been writing or working on various projects. I hope that you continue to come back for more content as things are changing and becoming better in focus for myself and my works in fiction.
Thank you as always for supporting me and I hope that you will continue to support the site.
Hello and welcome back to my site! Yes, as you can guess I have made some slight changes to the website header and the logo to Faerie Rose Press. One of the reasons for the changes was that I hated in the previous version there was that blank square and I also hated that I could not fit in the logo for Writer’s First Source.
The issues that I have had with the logo for Faerie Rose Press, was that it was a bit too dark and the words could be barely seen. Therefore, I changed the colors on the logo. Therefore, here is the new logo for Faerie Rose Press:
Now as you can see from the header there is also now a new logo for a new imprint called Silver Wolf Writing. Silver Wolf Writing is a direct imprint of Moonspinner3 Books, that allows for me to publish works that are either non-fiction and what also may be considered creative non-fiction. Yes, granted I’m mostly about fiction writing but there are times when we as writers that focus on fiction need to take a break from fiction writing and dive into the world of non-fiction. Therefore, that is where Silver Wolf Writing comes into play.
Here is the story behind Silver Wolf Writing, is that as I have been starting to think about what I want to accomplish this year, I also started thinking about publishing a book of essays. Let’s face it, not all essays are for academic purposes for there are times when we just need to write or rather jot our ideas down on paper. Sometimes it can be crap, but when they are pure genius, that is when you want to share with it others. Therefore, one of the things that I want to accomplish this year is a book of essays. There may also be a memoir in mind too, but I have not yet decided.
As I have mentioned on here before, I want to make this year all about the craft of writing. I want to explore, write, and publish. I am also in the process of working on re-working and re-publishing my poetry collection, Poems in a Milk Bottle. While I am also working on the second draft of Ravages of Time.
You may ask why, and the answer is simple, I feel that I rushed the poetry collection to publication and I want to add some new poems all the while, doing a really good relaunch. So look to that happening. I’m also thinking about re-publishing some of the short stories that I previously published last years as well. There are many things that I want to do and redo as well.
That is one of the blessings of being self-published and owning your own business, is that you can make these sort of decisions. This is also part of me learning about running this business and learning about marketing as well.
I feel that while this year is still new, and fresh I can take the time to build my business and my brand right. Now please, do not take this as I am restarting this website. Heck no, no one has time for that. I know that I don’t have time for that. I’m just doing things to make my brand stronger than it was yesterday. I know that you are probably sick of me changing things up, but look at other businesses that have made changes over their lifespan.
The one takeaway from all of this is that when you make writing your business, and you are still new and trying to make an impact and market your business, you try to be consistent on what your image, brand, and your message looks like. My message is that writing can be obtainable if you put forth the effort.
There is a saying that we have in the alpaca world, which I also feel is appropriate for the writing: What you put into your writing is what you are going to get out of it. If you don’t put the time or the effort into it, then it is not going to pay in the long run. Granted, I have learned the lesson and continue to learn that lesson.
Therefore, I want to make better choices and not just choices that need to be rushed into. That is something that we all should do when it comes to thinking about the choices that comes from trying to make writing a business.
I hope that you have a great writing day! Happy creating until next time!
Hello again! So yesterday, I changed or rather updated the look and feel to the logo for Elderwood Publications. While this took time to do so, I also felt that an updated look was need to the logo for Faerie Rose Press’s logo as well. The reason in part for the change was that when I originally created the logo for Faerie Rose Press, I used one of those logo generators that you can find on the Internet. Yes, it was a nice logo, but at times I could not change the way that it displayed on somethings, which was a pain, which was one of the reasons that I felt that the logo needed to be changed.
This was not a hasty decision, for I gave it much thought on whether such a change was needed to be made. There were so many questions that I thought about the change, such as am I able to access the original file to make changes that I wanted to make, and the answer was a big fat no. Therefore, this was one of the biggest reasons why I changed the logo. So as I said yesterday, out with the old and in with the new. So here is the old logo:
And here is the new logo:
One reason why I also made the change to the logo, was so that I could display the moto to Faerie Rose Press, “Where Stories are not just for Faeries.” This was not something that I could change or add to the original file of the logo.
Now I know that you are going to ask, are you going to change the logo to Moonspinner3 Books? The answer that I can give without a doubt is a heck no!! The logo to Moonspinner3 Books is not going to change. Not now and not ever, for it is here to stay.
I can honestly say, that I am done making changes to the logos that are under the umbrella of Moonspinner3 Books.
When I make any change, it is a decision that I do not make lightly, for I know that making any change can undo the balance that has already been put in place, but on the other hand, as I grow my business, I also want to be able to make the necessary changes that show that I am able to be flexible, which is apart of any business. Not just my business.
I hope that you continue to tune back for the content that you always enjoy. But one part of the content that I put out is letting you all know about the changes that I am making to Moonspinner3 Books, as well as Faerie Rose Press, and Elderwood Publications. Being able to put out content and sharing with all you writing advice and tips, as always been one of the things that I wanted to from the creation of this site. But also I want to share with all of you what I have going on and what I am working on. These are all the things that I want to do with this site.
As always, I appreciate your continued support, and I hope that you have a wonderful writing day and if you don’t come back until next year, I hope that you all have a wonderful new year!
It seems like if you look at a number of authors on Youtube, they are either talking about their last-minute writing goals for this year, they are looking back at the year that has been, or they are looking forward to all the things that they want to accomplish in the next year, I am no exception to this.
This year has been a number of things for me in terms of writing as well as personal. But I would rather not go through the long list of those things, because some of them are still hard to understand what happened. But in terms of writing, it has been a year of that for me. Granted, I did not publish as much as I had hoped to do. However, on the other hand, I did work on foundations in some of my stories, this included The Raven Prophecy, The Zodiac Tower, and Ravages of Time.
Therefore, I am going to take the time to reflect that this year, in terms of my writing was a year of growth. I focused on building images upon the page with words. I also learned a great deal about how to take my writing up a notch, which I have in turn paid it forward by sharing it will all of you. Sharing with all you has been a goal of mine from the start of this site, and that always makes me happy that I am able to share with all of you something new about the craft of writing.
While I have been sharing goodness about the world of writing, there are others out there that tried to strike a nerve within the community by trying to bring down their fellow authors down. This has left a dark mark on your community as a whole, and I hope that we in the new year can see that this trend or behavior make its way down a really dark hole, just let’s watch out for Alice as she makes her way down that same hole. But let’s also leave this darkness in the past shall we and make 2019 a year of rebuilding our community by supporting each other and trying to ruin others by copyrighting words, titles and other just items that are used to make our writings and our projects matter.
In other words, let us all get along and get back our job of writing without the added stress that comes from our community. We all have a common gift and we want to share our gift with readers. That should be our main focus and not coming after others within our treasured community.
Speaking of community, the community of Faerie Rose Press has grown, for this site now has over 125 followers. Let me put this on the record, that I appreciate all of you that continue to tune in for new content that I post, and this goes without saying it does not matter if this is the first time that you are visiting my site or the hundredth, it is appreciated. I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart, thank you and I hope that you will come back next year for new content.
On that note, let me get into what I want to accomplish next year. There are a number of things I would like to make a reality next year. The first of which is telling more stories, whether they be short or novel size. I really want to get more written, edited and published. I also want to share more stories about things will all of you on here as well, such as the stories behind some of my writings. This has been a real struggle for me since sometimes writing can be personal, but on the other hand, how can I inspire others, if I do not share. This is a real matter that has come to pass for me from time to time. But never fear, I will give it a try as I accept the challenge. This is what I have in mind so far in the back of my mind, as items that I want to accomplish next year.
That goes without saying that the first project that I have in mind to get to a second draft at the very least is Ravages of Time. Ravages of Time, like so many of my projects, as somewhat taken a back seat to others, but I’m going to try and work on one project at a time. This means for me starting one project and seeing it through until it is done or rather completed in its published form. Ravages of Time is the first of these beauties on the list, so look forward to many posts as I talk about my progress on Ravages of Time.
Lastly, my other goal for next year is to read a lot more than I did this past year. Yes, I did not do a good job of following up on my reading list and I have plenty to read. Therefore, I plan to read a bit more than this year and so look forward to seeing posts on what I am reading and I hope to stay on task on that as well. But we shall see.
However, will all of this in mind, I am hoping that next year is a better year all the way around. I will close this post by saying, I hope that all of you are enjoying this holiday season and I wish all of you a Happy New Year. But just to let you know, this year has not come to a close and either has Faerie Rose Press, for there is still much to post throughout the rest of this year.
I hope all of you have a happy writing day as you create worlds with your words. Have a great day!
Hey guys! It has been about a week since I have posted any thing on here. There are some exciting changes coming to Faerie Rose Press, Moonspinner3 Books, and Elderwood Publications. But first lets start with the new header. As you can see there are two new logos that have been added to the header. The first is Pink Top Toadstool Productions.
Pink Top Toadstool Productions is for short stories written in the Fantasy genre. So if you follow the logic of the header, Faerie Rose Press is for Fantasy genre novels and above that is Pink Top Toadstool. So Fantasy genre stuff is on one side and on the other side is Elderwood Publications with the other genre writings, and in the middle is Moonspinner3 Books and under that is my picture. I’m trying to expand my little enterprise while not getting over whelmed. I will explain my logic a little bit later in the post. But first let me introduce the other side of the short story coin with, River Valley Short Story Productions.
River Valley Short Story Productions is for story stories written under other genres. This includes westerns, or anything that is not fantasy, and that is why it is placed just above the logo for Elderwood Publications. This is where story stories will be published.
The reason why I created these two divisions is that I love to write story stories. This has always been a joy for me since I was younger. Let’s also state that like most writers, I did not start to seek out on the writing journey of writing novels, but rather short stories. Short stories are fun to write, and are a blast to put out if you are looking for a quick fifteen minute fix on your writing, short stories are the way to go. Therefore, with all of this in mind, I thought that I needed a place to publish short stories and that is where Pink Top Toadstool Productions and River Valley Short Story Productions come in. Yes, I said productions for both Pink Top Toadstool and River Valley Short Story.
I main reason why I am going with Productions as the underlining title for both of these, is that productions in mind are quick and have a lot of make on their own merit. This is the same for any production company that is under a bigger name such as Disney or Warner Brothers, for some where in the mix is a production company that also deserves credit for what they put out, and that is exactly how I feel with these two divisions when it comes to short stories.
On this note, I want to give some quick updates on other happenings within Moonspinner3 Books. Ravages of Time is still being worked on. I have not put aside this project for the sake of short stories. Heck no. But I am currently working on a short story on the side, which means that I am still writing and actively writing and working on things even if I am not posting on here daily. I plan to work on making a schedule for getting things in order, for the new year.
I also created a kit for writing that I can take with me. I will make time to be on here tomorrow, so that I can share with you this kit that I made myself, so that I can take my writing with me. So I hope that you stay tune for tomorrow’s post.
Since the last time that I was on here, I have been busy working away on the planning phase for my project that I’m going to be working on during the course of NaNoWrimo. Granted, I mentioned my project in the latest update blog for Faerie Rose Press, which not may ready. That’s fine, I get it, who want’s to read or talk about updates when there is so much more to talk about in the world of writing. But I feel that I should give my new project a presence and a proper post of it’s own by its own right.
The project that I have declared formally to take on for NaNoWriMo this year, is called The Bird that Sings. The Bird that Sings, is set about fifty years in the future, after a great war and as a result of the war girls are now known as “Birds.” Some birds are more special than others and one of these special birds is a girl, Sarah. Sarah is being groomed to become the next high priestess. Being high priestess means that you are a powerful figure that you take on for as long as you life.
Sarah as she is being groomed to become high priestess, cannot talk or even be touched. Her skin is basically not allowed to be touched my anyone or anything. If someone touches her, then they are sentenced to death. A price that Sarah feels is unjust, and she wants to be touched and to touch. She wants to speak or sing what is not right about the world, and the only way that she can do that is to kill the current high priestess. But is she willing to take that chance to get what she wants?
That is what I have so far, granted there are other ideas that I’m currently working on for this project, and I can’t wait to get started. So far I have the premise, the characters, the scope of the word that Sarah lives in on page one and before page one. I have also in the course of planning this project I have designed a cover as well. Here is the cover for The Bird that Sings:
Granted, this is just a draft of the cover and it is one that I have also designed. It’s not as flashy as some of the over covers that I have designed, but for now it will do but as the project continues I may redo the cover or I may keep with this cover. We shall see.
I hope that when you declare your project for NaNoWriMo, that you take the time to drill out or think writing a synopsis and thinking about what a possible outcome for the story, and a possible cover. When you drill out some if not all of the information for your novel, then you have a greater chance of making what you want a reality.
Thank you for reading this post and I hope that it gives you some ideas of what you can put out when thinking about NaNoWriMo project for this year.
Hello and Welcome to the world of Faerie Rose Press! Last year, I started this website and this has been a love and a sincere joy to able to share what I know and what I am currently learning about the writing process. Each day I learn something new and with everything that I learn is give me more knowledge and insight on how writing is like creating magic.
I have always said that since day one, that this site would be changing through growth for nothing is set in stone. I have been flexible in what I have posted and the way that I have presented the information. Furthermore, I have presented the content on this site in a way that may not have been presented or addressed like no one else.
My goal has always been to be able to encourage others to go find and take on their own writer’s journey, and to make their journey their own. This even means making mistakes along the way and to acknowledging the weak stories that we may have written.
Granted, in the year that this site has been created, I have published four short stories and a poetry collection on Amazon, and I have been working on several novels. I know this is where I need to work on one novel at a time. But I still have the goal to finish one of my novels and to get it published. But I’m not only writing, I’m also creating book covers for what I have written.
Also in the same year, I have created a sister division of publishing, Elderwood Publications. The parent company for both Faerie Rose Press and Elderwood Publications has also been created, Moonspinner3 Books. Faerie Rose Press is for works of fiction written in the genre of fiction. Elderwood Publications is for works of fiction in other genres.
Through every step that I have taken through this year, I must say a huge thank you to all of you for your continued support. This is regardless if this is the first time that you visit this site, or the hundredth time. Thank you and I hope that you find something that helps you through out the days that you consider as your writing days. Just remember to create magic through the use of imagination and to use that imagination to unleash your creativity. Further more take time to create, write, grow and to inspire.
I want to make a quick announcement: I have just reached 101 followers on this website. I want to say a huge thank you, to all of you for following me and supporting me on this site. I hope that I am a difference to all of you in your writing.
This morning, I woke up to take my nephew to his first day of school. That’s right, school is back in session and for many of us, we take that as the start of a new year. Granted, we are still in August and we have a few more months until the actual start of the new calendar year. But I thought, that I would spruce up the sight. There is a new header on the site, and a new template design that has been given to the site. But I can assure you that the content of the site is still the same.
From the beginning, I have always that stated that Faerie Rose Press, will changing as I learn and grown, and that has been what this site has been about. Growing, learning, evolving, and above all enhancing others when they look at writing. Yes, I have done things and have taken things off and on this site, but I’ve never lost the focus or that drive to help others with achieving their writing goals or go about writing a novel.
While others may see this as something that has been done before on numerous other platforms, but there are always different ways to look at the world or what can be done to solve a problem to gain a solution. That is essentially is writing. There is a phrase that I have heard before, and that is well some one has already written that story before. That may be true, but the other part of the phrase is, it may have been written before but not by you.
Granted, this is where you might have to think about what I have just said, but it’s true no one is going to tell the story the way that you want it to be told unless you write it yourself. Now does this mean, that you should rewrite a story that has already been written before, ie like Harry Potter? No, it means take a story idea and add your flare to it. Be original, and see what you can add to the story or create with that single spark.
Here is another secret that others might not have thought or they have but there is a reason early on when your starting to write, they teach you to write fan fiction. The reason is so that you can understand the concept of taking something and making it grow. I remember being in the fourth grade and we read a book called, “The Chocolate Touch.” If you haven’t figured it out yet this is like “Midas with the Golden Touch”, but instead of gold you’re using chocolate. Well after reading the book, we had to write our own “Chocolate Touch,” story and use most of the elements of the story such as the chocolate touch. That was the first version of fan fiction that I ever wrote. But it stuck with me for years. Granted, do I remember the story that I wrote? I’ll be honest and say no, but I do remember writing it and that I still have a copy of it.
Yes, some may put down fan fiction as copying but I more like to think about it as an exercise in the creative processes of writing. One of the many that we go through over time. But here is another part of fan fiction, it can be start as fan fiction and can grow into something else. Case and point, Fifty Shades of Grey. Yes, Fifty Shades of Grey is fan fiction of nothing other than the Twilight Saga. While it may be considered simple fan fiction, it has transformed the genre of erotica romance into where it is a buy able product in your local super market. Before Fifty Shades of Grey, forget it for you would have to go to a Borders or a Barnes and Nobel to purchase such a book and even then it had a disclaimer on it. That’s been deleted from the genre and the answer is pretty simple, the book became very popular and the disclaimer is no longer needed on any erotica romances.
That’s what one sample of what fan fiction has done and it has grown from there for that one genre. Does this mean that every story or novel written has to be fan fiction. Heck no! Trust me when I say, if everything is based on fan fiction nothing original would ever be looked or even considered by publishers or readers. Remember, when we write we need to keep our readers in mind and that is that our readers, just like movie goers want original content. This does not mean that we have re-create the same wheel over and over again. If we are looking to do that, then we might as well talk about formula writing.
I’ll say that some formula writers do really well over time, but after a while the writer’s fan base has an expectation of what is going to be in the pages between the covers, and the writer is stuck writing the same thing over and over again, and cannot do anything new or original. Why? Simple: the readers will be turned off what his or her next book will be and it is not what they are used to reading from that writer. It’s a shame when you think about it, but in the end it’s based on the decision that the writer started with their writing career with and continued to do so. Romance writers sometimes have this difficulty along with mystery and thriller writers too.
But let me describe what I mean by formula writer, we know that there are certain expectations from genres of what needs to be in the story but with formula writers they go one more step above this. It goes like this, writer usually has a female character that has to a problem and is running away from said problem and meets the male character. They fall in love, they get to close, and the female character pushes said male character away and the male character figures out to help female character so that they can have a happily ever after, which may not be the case due to dare I say it a death of a character. One of the great writers, or at least to his fans, even if they do not realize it when they are reading one his novels or watching one of the film adaptation of his novels, is all based on a formula.
The author that I’m talking about is Nicholas Sparks. Yes, he is one of the great formula writers in our time and granted, he is doing it so well that he is make money and the reason is that romance sells. I found a blog post, Hello Giggles, that lists 7 Things that Happen in Every Nicholas Sparks Movie. Even in another blog called, “Thoroughly Modern,” she even posts about the formula that has been used time and again by Nicholas Sparks. I’m not putting Nicholas under the bus, but I’m just saying that if he wanted to reach out and do something else away from his formula, he may be unable to do so due to the loyal readership of his fans.
While I would never try to persuade a writer not to write what he or she wants, there are just some careful considerations that need to be looked at besides how to publish, genre, and any other topic that goes under the generic umbrella that is about writing, but rather things that need to be thought about is formula, trends, and originality versus fan fiction. There is a reason why there is a category at the Academy Awards for “Best Original Screenplay” versus “Best Adaptive Screenplay.” This is just the many things that we as writers need to think about as we work on our works of fiction.
Well, I’m almost out of coffee and I hope that you have found this post to be an enjoyable read, and I’ve had fun writing it. I hope that you have a great writing day until next time!
I know that before yesterday, I talked a lot about writers conferences and things that come out of from going to conferences. Well, here is one more thing that came out of going to the latest conference, a parent company for Faerie Rose Press. Let me back track for a second and let it be known that the creation for Faerie Rose Press came from going to conference.
That’s right, the idea for Faerie Rose Press came from my second attendance of the Castle Rock Writer’s conference. It was during one of the sessions that I attended that the idea was imposed that if you are going to self-publish then you need to come up with a company name. So on my way home, I was thinking and thinking about a name between my mind swirling with all the information that I had gathered from all the other sessions. I knew when it came to finding the name was one that reflected fantasy, for remember the only story that I had on my mind was The Raven Prophecy. Then I thought of Faerie then I thought of pages of a book. Well the only thing that I came to mind were the petals of a rose, and then what came was Faerie Rose Press. Then when I got home, I registered the name with the Secretary of States office and that was how Faerie Rose Press was born.
Then for Elderwood Publications, the name and the creation was a different story. Elderwood Publications came from the idea Paper comes from trees and trees can be elders. Then there was the continuation of that idea that stories, usually ones that are well known and told over and over again are older and are classic. Therefore, I wanted a name that represented that idea, so I maintained the word Elder in the name. The wood part of the name comes from trees usually are found in the woods, or woodland areas. It is also a continuation of fantasy for most fantasy stories in some way or another are set in the forest. It might seem a bit overrated or unappealing.
But that is how the name Elderwood came together, and that’s how Elderwood Publications was born. It was also born from the idea that not every story that I write is going to be considered as fantasy so I needed something that was going to work for other genres of fiction. Granted, this was also put out after I had written the first draft of The Ravages of Time.
Now let’s fast-forward from all of that to a couple of days ago when I was attending the Write.Market.Publish.Sell! Conference. While I was at the conference, I had a one on one session with an already published writer to seek advice and to ask questions about things that deal with writing and where I see myself and my writing going. She agreed with everything that I had to say and how I was doing. However, there was one thing that I needed to do and that was create a parent company for Faerie Rose Press and Elderwood Publications. The reason for this was that I have stated that Faerie Rose Press is only for fantasy works and Elderwood Publications is for other genres of fiction, then I need to have a parent company over the two of them.
Also I found out that my wording of division was also wrong term, for it is called imprint. I have also started changing the wording on some of my business documentation to show that it is no longer referred to as division and more as an imprint.
Therefore, as I was thinking about the information that I received, I thought of a name that I have used before as an alias on games and for a while it was my persona back when MySpace was a thing. I have used it on a couple of my email addresses. It’s a name that I have wanted to grow and at one point I thought that if I was to have a business empire it would be used. It might be silly but as dreamers, and creators we dream big and leave nothing out. I’ve grown from those days, as well, but I have not given up on my dreams. Therefore, the parent company that I am using for both Faerie Rose Press and Elderwood Publications is (drum roll please…) Moonspinner3 Books.
Moonspinner3 Books is a continuation of what I have always wanted to create from Faerie Rose Press and Eldwrood Publications. Writing takes magic, imagination and creativity. Through this message we also create, write, grow and inspire. We want to continue writing and helping writers. Please, understand that Faerie Rose Press as it is today is not changing. This website is still going to be under Faerie Rose Press, all contact information is not changing.
I hope that you will continue with me on this journey and continue with our main mission of create, write, grow and inspire. But mostly we grow with the information that we gain and share with others. This is also in part of what I have stated from the beginning, in that we make adjustments and we grow and learn from the adjustments that we make. I hope that you have a great writing day until next time.
